Fencing FAQs

1. How long does the season last?
The fencing season begins in early September to the end of April..

2. Does the UPEIFC sell equipment?

Some second-hand equipment does become available from time to time. There's a list of equipment distributors available.

3. Can anyone join up?
Generally, anyone can join; however, children must begin at age 8.

4. Does the UPEIFC go to competitions?

Yes, tournaments do take place monthly in the maritimes and across Canada.

5. Is there a rental for fencing equipment?
No, there's no rental and club equipment is available for members. We do encourage people to purchase their own equipment.

6. How much are private lessons?
It costs 25/hr for private lessons. Private lessons take place during regular practices. Other arrangements must be made if one wants a lesson outside regular practice time. Please talk to Phil Stewart for further details.

7. What are the different weapon choices, and does the UPEI Fencing Club teach all three?
There are three weapons in fencing: foil, epee and sabre Beginners usually begin with foil first. We teach all three weapons.

8. How many times can I fence each week through the UPEI Fencing Club, and do I have to make all the practices?

Practices usually take place on Tuesday nights and Saturday morning.

9. What are the practice times for the spring and fall semesters?
The practices are from Tuesdays from 7:00PM--8:45PM and Saturdays from 9:15-11:15AM; however, these are subject to change.

10. Can non-students fence?
Yes, Non-students can learn the sport of fencing.
